The Intersection of Science and Law

Peg specializes in complex cases that live at the cross-section of science and the law. For much of her career, she litigated expert-intensive disputes including consumer protection, environmental, and Proposition 65 cases. Her deep understanding of both the substantive and procedural aspects of these matters provides her with unique insight into technically complex disputes that she now brings to her mediation practice.

Appellate Excellence

As a Certified Appellate Specialist, Peg litigated appeals in state and federal courts, collaborated with plaintiff and defense trial teams to preserve appellate records, served as an “appellate judge” for mock oral arguments, and provided post-trial appellate evaluations across diverse practice areas. As a mediator, she often relies on her appellate expertise and immerses herself in the intellectual rigor of cases presenting issues of first impression, elaborate statutory or regulatory schemes, or cutting-edge scientific data.

Diverse Legal Background

Peg’s career spans both private practice and public service throughout California. She has served as Counsel at Arnold & Porter in San Francisco, managed her own successful firm in Placer County, worked as a Deputy Attorney General in the Sacramento California Attorney General’s Office, and clerked for the Honorable Warren J. Ferguson on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. This breadth of experience provides her with perspective from every angle of complex litigation.

The Transition to Mediation

Peg’s move to mediation represents a natural evolution in her career. She is passionate about helping parties find common ground and avoid the cost, time, and stress of protracted litigation. Peg is a possibilist. Her extensive litigation experience has instilled a deep belief that most disputes can be resolved fairly and efficiently when guided by a skilled mediator who understands both the legal complexities and human dynamics at play.

Mediation Experience

Peg has nearly 30 years of negotiation and mediation experience. Having participated in over 300 mediations, either as the mediator or an advocate, Peg understands the process from every perspective. She has developed a thorough appreciation for how cases are properly evaluated and the common barriers to settlement. This knowledge proves invaluable in guiding parties toward resolution.

She brings intelligence, tenacity, diplomacy, and a calm demeanor (cultivated over a decade of committed meditation practice) into every mediation session. What makes Peg effective in the mediation rooms is the rare combination of analytical rigor and authentic human connection that turns seemingly impossible impasses into positive outcomes.
